The Oaks District
Developed after the turn-of-the-century, the
Oaks district is characterized by wide streets lined with oaks,
which were first planted in 1905. The district is the site of
“Pinehurst,” a 1928 Neo-Classical style home built on the same site
Hattiesburg founder William H. Hardy chose in 1895 for his estate.
The primary architectural style of the district is Craftsman
Bungalow; however, examples of Tudor, Mission, Renaissance,
Victorian, Colonial Revival and Neo-Classical are also found.
