Hattiesburg Zoo.
Hattiesburg Zoo. At the heart of Hattiesburg is one of the places
that makes this town bristle with life. Tucked into 14 acres of
Hattiesburg’s
Kamper Park
is one of America’s great small zoos.
Begun with a pair of lions, the zoo has grown to
accommodate 19 exhibits from five continents, including the recent
completion of a new South American habitat. Here, visitors come
face-to-face with the zoo’s new jaguar, separated only by a clear
pane of glass.
Other popular animals include zebras, ostriches,
gibbons, guenons, lemurs, playful prairie dogs and, of course,
alligators and mighty tigers. Future exhibits will include black
bears, bobcats, raccoons, river otters, reptiles, waterfowl and
several other species.
Kids will love riding the train and conquering the
playground. Parents will love the cost – only $2 per adult and $1
per child, a small price to pay for a tuckered–out tike at the end
of the day.
